The bizarre practice of re-makes is not limited to Hollywood behavior. It’s a growing sickness we may never completely understand. In order to survive stories must be retold.

Versions of the events may differ, but those who were locked in for the weekend at Closer Studio’s in San Francisco agree it happened; We reinterpreted Waylon Jenning’s Dreaming My Dreams song by song. Just as the ancient Greek Myths were adopted by the Romans and later Shakespeare, we subjected it to "the treatment". We morphed. We cross casted. We took it weird places. Fruitvale plays like a postmodern barrio version of Our Town set to music. The characters in Sonny’s songs are so real, don’t be surprised if they crawl out of your speakers and bum your last smoke off you. I wouldn’t wish running a label on my worst enemy. Sonny is so good I had no choice. What can a poor boy do?

New Kelly Willis record coming on Rykodisc June 24!

——————————————————————————————————

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Willis

There’s a sadness below Kelly, as if she’s been touched by fire a time too many. You can hear it in her voice. What the hell do you expect? It shouldn’t come as any surprise considering she used to call her father "Colonel". We got all "housewife goth" on her latest. Gingham aprons and bad blood everywhere.

Following the San Francisco screening of "Dangerous Highway", a truly motley group gathered for a drunken afternoon at Annie’s Social Club on Folsom to pay tribute to the brilliant Eddie Hinton. Eddie, known for his brilliant songwriting, was not well known for his most important endeavor; turning Dan Penn on to acid.

Gigsville, New record in the works, more

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~IN THIS ISSUE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Gigs, gigs, gigs… Alejandro solo shows, Parkinsong benefit NJ, Kelly Willis SXSW, Northwest dates, Mofro support dates
*New Record in the works
*Green On Red to release BBC sessions
http://www.uncut.co.uk/news/green_on_red/news/9469
*WAYLON, ARE YOU PISSED?
We’ve got some gigs to report. Parkinsong in-the-round tribute show in NJ, SXSW in Austin where I’ll be slumming it playing the role of producer/guitar player with Kelly Willis, Alejandro solo midwest dates, Mofro support gigs (w/ the band) on the west coast etc. Northwest dates and even a block party in Sacramento.
But check it, we’ve been back in the studio making a new record!
What can I say? It rained a lot the last couple weeks. We got it on our face and on our hair. We holed up. We ordered out. We gave it up for the songs, for each other. We prayed for our mayor, let the rain wash him clean. We exhausted our nine volt battery supply. We bought more. We goofed on some agitated single coil cubist junk, got serious with the spring reverb on mournful ballads. We took it to parts unknown. Together we kept time. Together we kept each other laughing. We fought the good fight into the wee hours. We shared new bruises every morning. We bought more tape and chewed right through the reels. We cut a mess of songs. Some of which are up and running and fending for themselves, others demanding more care.
Anyway, stay tuned, I’ll try to keep you updated in the coming weeks with pictures and words and maybe even some 16 mm motion (for real(!) Danny Plotnick shot hours of footage) film soon as we raise the dough to get it developed.
Hope to see you out there in gigsville.
Peace out girl scouts,
—CP
——————————————————————————————————
Sundance Film Festival: Chuck Prophet duo at the Star Bar in Park City
SUNDANCE HERE WE COME "Teeth" the movie
——————————————————————————————————
Thanks to the good taste of a few, we’ve placed a song that runs during the prime real estate closing credits of this grimly funny, teen angst film.
The official web-site for Teeth: http://www.teethmovie.com/
Wassup Sundance?
Sure there’s fun in the sun, but there’s always more fun in the dark. Anyone will tell you that. Having never been to Sundance, I honestly don’t know what to expect. I’ve heard it’s like an expense account Mardi Gras. It’s the Anti-Burning Man; it’s Swaggeteria Central. Call it what you will, I look forward to climbing the mythical mountain where hard-core cinephiles and other Hollywood types dressed in black gobble up movies like handfuls of Goobers and Raisinets.
People say it’s become too slick, too mainstream, too commercialized, too SUCCESSFUL. What can we tell you? Now that we’ve been invited to perform, it’s officially too SOMETHING. For the gig, Todd Roper and I will be making as much noise as two people are allowed (see above link for time and place). Dan Kennedy from the home office will be in attendance kissing babies and maybe wrestling in the snow with Harvey Wienstein, but probably not.
We’re looking forward to celebrity snow bunny Blackberry sightings, being locked out of sold out screenings and free parties, not free parties, snaking bathroom lines and to coming home with pockets heaving with knick knacks, and our bags bulging swag.
