I’m not some bubblegum nerd or Power Pop weirdo
Hello Friends,
First of all, thanks for being on this list. It’s hard to get the news out there. And now that I’ve got your attention: we’ve got some shows and what-not to announce. And man, this newsletter helps get the word out. I can also tell you from experience that this newsletter beats the dog doo out of going around from city to city with a staple gun, plastering posters on telephone poles all over creation. And, come to think of it, it’s better for the planet, too.
I’m looking forward to taping a Mountain Stage in Walnut Creek this Thursday with the Make Out String Quartet. Walnut Creek? That’s a long way from West Virginia. Just sayin’. What else can I say? If you’re lucky enough to have tickets, we will see you there. Honestly, beyond that, I’m always a little confused with the whole consult-your-local-listings part of it… you’re smart. You’ll figure it out. As usual, there’s some great folks on the bill, too. Like Ramblin’ Jack Elliot. We’re psyched.
I am happy to inform you that this will be my 11th Mountain Stage appearance. There’s a little Mountain Stage in everything I do. I never want it to end when I’m there. Last time - if you remember - I shoved a couple interns into a flight case and rolled those kids right out of there. I’ve got them chained up in the basement now. They write my tweets! One of them is writing this newsletter.
VALENTINES DAY! This Valentine’s Day, we’ll be at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco and two days later at HopMonk in Novato. Why not make it a date with Chuck Prophet, Stephanie Finch (Bride of Chucky), Vicente Rodriguez, and The Make Out String Quartet? That’s right. Guitars, keys, drums, and strings – all tied together with sheet music. This anti-V-Day event with The Make Out Quartet will be HOT HOT HOT. No heat lamps necessary! And I will officially confirm the rumor I started myself – these two shows will sell out. (In fact, the show at HopMonk already has!)
You guys know I’m a serious Rubinoos fanboy, right? I’m not some bubblegum nerd or Power Pop weirdo. And neither are they. But one thing the Rubes are is true to their school, whether it’s Spaghetti Western soundtrack music, The Beach Boys, or the DeFranco family, or worse. They wear it on their sleeves. Believe me when I tell you: They’ve taken the heroes journey, they’ve gone up the mountain and talked to the elephant and brought back more than a T Shirt from the front lines. Every Rubinoos show is like the last one.
This Friday, I’ll be your DJ at The Chapel. It’s an all 45 RPM party, I’ve got lined up for you. So come see the Greatest Band In The World with the added bonus that I’ll be spinning records between sets. It’s up to you.
Again, I can only recommend – not insist – how you spend your entertainment dollar. But if you’re anything like me, you wouldn’t miss a chance to take in the sights and the sounds of the Rubes at The Chapel. Dare I say it: for unfettered excellence, it’s the safest bet in showbiz.
Also, aside from my DJ career,
Onto the next disaster,
Onwards,
-CP
P.S. If you want to get deeper into the real nitty-gritty with some more of my personal writing, you can follow me over at Substack.
P.P.S NEW T SHIRTS! Old CD’s. Plus we’ve got 180 gram LPs. That’s a lot of grams. Try snorting that!
