Its a 'megaphone' processed effect..Don't know how Chuck gets it?..but it's got to be a processing unit. Just found out there's a foot pedal unit for it too ( Link Below) I've only got basic recording equipment ( I Don't use Reason let alone Pro Tools!) but I've used it before through an old Zoom effects box thing I've got. I just put the setting to 'Gate' and then bleed extra volume through and I get the Tom Waits sound going on. I'm guessing maybe Chuck uses a foot pedal then? Its good sound engineering to get it on the 'live' stage like Chuck does though..The EQ has be bang on otherwise that effect could pierce right through ears of the audience. Ouch! Everytime I've seen him though it cleverly comes in just below that listening pain threshold..and its cool. |

Yes indeed, another great show, every night is Saturday night when The Mission Express hit town. I agree that 'Would You Love Me?' was ace last night, Kevin & Kyle locking down the bottom end and James absolutely flying on bottleneck, give that man a pat on the back! Other highlights were 'Summertime Thing' (part 2 morphing ever closer to prime-time Allman Bros) and 'Summertime Blues' (a vocal showcase for Carsten!) Plus, all the big tunes off the new album are quickly becoming firm crowd favourites, especially the sing-along 'Temple Beautiful' itself. Another brilliant tour. Hope CP & crew enjoy Spain, came back soon! NP |

I was lucky enough to catch Chuck and the Mission express at the Cluny, Newcastle last night. Third time I've seen them and they just get better and better. Chuck and the guys are still down to earth approachable guys and gals, and starstruck as I was I spoke to Chuck and Stephanie whilst they were having pre gig refreshments in the foyer bar. Made my night. The gig itself was awesome. Love the new album , which is his best for years and it got a great airing on the night. So many tunes on this album are destined to become firm favourites with the fans. I particularly liked Castro Halloween. The band were tight as a gnats chuff, and their rendition of Summertime thing went on and on so much so that I never wanted it to stop. Tears in my eyes but tears of joy. Hurry back |

It's Saturday morning, so more than enough time to reflect on Cluny gig. I can't really add to what others have said about how wonderful it was.I was buzzing the day afeter...it was that good!! Chuck is indeed the Man. I do want to mention Stepanie and that lovely performance of Count The Days. Quite different to the Inez & Charlie Foxx original and came across as hers. All praise to "Cry Tomorrow" a terrific album!I hope she gets time for another. Finally, so pleased The Chuckmeister returned to the Cluny. When they played Gateshead Town Hall, that venue was all wrong for them...stage too high and distance from the audience created |

Some good footage on youtube of this gig. The pic is better than the sound. Love this very funky styrofoam woman (link below). The uploader comes up with an interesting song title... "You could make a million dollars out of Jesus". Well, you probably could. How many million did Mel make? |

Topped the Manchester show for me, the Brudenell is a pretty special venue when it connects like it did with CP on Tuesday. He fed off it wonderfully, his banter has never been funnier, the story about the GOR drugs bust in Leeds absolutely stand up comedian hilarious. And the guitar playing, beyond words. |
