Chuck Prophet / Small Hall Paradiso / 18 march 2005 Mory Kanté was already playing at the big hall when Chuck entered the small stage one floor up. Mory was not really alone, an eleven piece, exotic band, made it rather busy at the stage. Chuck wasn't alone as well. He brought his wife Stephanie on keyboards and background vocals, a base player, a drummer and a guitarist, who every now and then played the steelpedalguitar. Chuck Prophet is well known of his collaboration in the nineties band Green on Red (Paisley underground) Go Go Market is also a project he was /is involved. He and Stephanie Finch produced a very nice record, a bit underestimated by the press: Hotel San José. About the concert: I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this “Squier- telecaster”. If you were not a guitar freak you wouldn't understand: A normal guitarist don't like to bee seen with a Squier. It is an imitation of a fender!! But this man plays mean guitar. The sounds Chuck gets out of this guitar made me (a Fender-player) weak in the knees. Impossible, incredible and so on. He caressed the strings, he punished them, bend them and squeezed them. Great work. He told the audience that he opens bottles of beer with his fingers (I believe him) He played a lot of his latest album (Age of miracles) like “You did “, “Pin a Rose” and “West Memphis”, but also the vintage Chuck, like “After the rain” The sound wasn't very good. The soundmanager, on the right of the stage was more in love with is “amstelbeer” then the stagesound!! Chucks guitar was too loud and unfortunately the sound of Stephanie's voice and keyboard to soft. Even though it was a good gig! Hansione |
