Medicine Show

Just wanted to let those Green On Red fans who might have also been Dream Syndicate fans that Medicine Show has been re-issued as a CD and is available on Steve Wynn's Web Site. That's Steve Wynn the musician not Steve Wynn the Las Vegas developer.

More fun and games

Name your favorite song from Soap & Water. This is not easy but I'd have to say Talking New Kingdom is mine.

Would You Love Me. The saddest and truest lines I ever heard about the tragedy of The King. I coulda just skipped the whole of Guralnick's Careless Love biog and gone direct to this song without passing GO had Chuck written it a few years earlier.

soap and water is such a beautiful album and it's a shame to be forced to name the best song ... which is naked ray in my opinion :-)

For me, one of the hallmarks of a great album is that it takes a while to sink in. Rarely, have I listened to a record first or even second time through and said to myself, wow. What I love about Soap and Water is that even though i know the music is the same as the first time I heard it, in my mind the album almost seems to continue to grow organically. For me, this one edges out all others, except for maybe Let Freedom Ring which has taken a similar hold on me. 'Would you love Me?' breaks my heart everytime I hear it. But Happy Ending, a song I think I initially overlooked, now crushes me.

As Seen on TV

I'm listening to Chuck's live CD "As Seen on TV" It's a rockin' groovin' recording. Nowhere does it indicate where or when it was recorded though. You can purchase it from belle sound.

It was Austin City Limits TV Show. Recorded in Austin Texas Wednesday 30th July 2003. First broadcast on PBS TV later that year at around Christmas / New Year. MX line up at the time was CP, SF, Rob Douglas, Max Butler & Winston Watson. I'll post the set list next. Not sure if all the tracks made it onto the CD. Shame that this set was never released as one of the Austin City Limits DVDs. Maybe it was to preserve CP's street cred - he wore a real cute pink shirt...presumably for the cameras!!

And the full set list for the gig was : Old Friends, No Other Love, What Can You Tell me, Summertime Thing, Til You Came Along, You Been Gone, That's How Much I Need Your Love, I Bow Down And Pray To Every Woman I see, After The Rain, Run Primo Run, It Won't Be Long, Diamond Jim, Dyin' All Young, Textbook Case, Elouise, God's Arms, Shoot 'Em All Down... It was a great live show so if the CD captures it then it's a recommended buy.

I believe the actual ACL broadcast was a combo of Chuck and Jonny Lang. Only 5 songs were broadcast: Old Friends, After The Rain, Diamond Jim, No Other Love and What Can You Tell Me. I wish the CD was cheaper on Belle Sound. $35!

The video is pretty damn good...I bought a copy for $5 years ago off flea bay. File is a bit too large to share though sorry.

Blureu---yeah but the $35 goes to a good cause---supporting Chuck and Steph. It really is a good CD.

The cd is part of a very limited run. The sleeve was hand printed and the whole thing financed by CP/Belle Sound so you'd expect it to be more expensive than a standard cd,especially now that there's not so many left. Originally though it was sold at gigs for a bit less money.

Thanks Chuck for coming to Pittsburgh and Columbus. Not that I'm excited to see you or anything, but I'm going to both shows! I live in Columbus.

Steph and Chuck

Any feedback from the double-billing at the Great American Music Hall for us "distantly challenged" fans out here??

Bruno

I was at the show. My opinion is biased but honest. Stephanie’s band was really great. She is a sweet and harmonious singer who delivers the goods. In this day and age it is a ridiculously struggle to find someone who can sing, let alone deliver it with a style like no one else. I really cannot compare her musically to any other female singer. Her style is so unique and soulful. She is so much her own singer. One way to describe her, and I apologize, my opinion, is a cross between Crissy Hyde of the pretenders and Eva Cassidy. Her pitch and the band’s sound was so unique and totally rocking. Not one bad note and delivered with such a beauty and charm. The guy on guitar was kind of a showboat, but he was good. The bass and drums on were spot on for clean, thoughtful sound. Here’s the biased part. That woman is so smoking hot that I would carry her amp anywhere.
